Blog Numero Dos
The chicas we were travelling with (Fliss and Becky).....
were getting so bored....
that they had to leave us and head back home.
So since then we have been making lots of new friends, mainly, horses, dogs and a few turtles.
We have now left Mexico and said goodbye to the sunsets, huts on the beach and Coronas.
And said hello to Guatemala and all that goes with it....
Chicken buses....
Colourful Mayan locals.....

and Volcanos.
Freezing at the top of the highest point in Central America (Valcano Tajumulco 4200m) waiting for sunrise
Finally sunrise appears over eight volcanoes, near Antigua. (Mexico is behind us, Guatemala is straight ahead)
Estatic to be defrosting in the sun!We are now in chilly Xela trying desperately hard to learn Spanish. We have enrolled in a school for two weeks and are living with a local Xelan lady, who is about as crazy as they come but very funny and most importantly is an awesome cook. Every morning we get up at seven for five hours of solid one-on-one Spanish and still our spanish is about the standard of a two year old´s (I´m still about 6 months but Alice is getting good). There is so much incentive to learn though, Guatemalans are so friendly and the next time we take a chicken bus and a Guatalaman family has to pile onto our laps, it will be fantastic to say more than just "How are you" followed by seven hours of awkward silence. Plus there are so many opportunities for volunteer work here and speaking Spanish is essential.
We have also started salsa classes which is proving to be hilarious, we are probably two of the most uncoordinated dancers in Central America but our teacher, thank god, is patient....
On the weekend we went on a two day trek to the highest point in Central America (Volcan Tajumulco - 4220m). It was hard work at that altitude and freezing cold at night. We got up at 4am to watch sunrise at the top of Volcan Tajumulco, it was unbelievable! Mexico on one side, Guatemala on the other and eight volcanos ahead, two of which were erupting! This weekend we are off to some hot springs that are at the base of some fairly impressive waterfalls, should be a nice break before school starts again!
Here are a couple of spanish bloopers for you, translated into english for your convenience
On our first day with our host family Alice said to her new Guatemalan mum
"I think you are very lucky to have me living with you¨"
Three nights later Coff announced at the dinner table:
"I am very sexually excited about tonight´s dinner"
Hasta Luego Mis Amigos!!!! Andres y Alicia!!! xoxoxox

exploring jungles.....

Bird watching in the jungles of Palenque
splashing in waterfalls.....

Waterfalls near Palenque.
eating out in colouful markets (tacos, tacos and more tacos)......

Eating at a taco stand while waiting for a bus at Chetumal.
getting lost in wonderful cobble stoned streets.....

Streets in San Cristobal
and eating copious amounts of chilly.
We saw some spectacular ruins near the jungle, honestly they are up there with the most beautiful in the world!

Ruins at Palenque
The beer here is tasty and the people are warm and never hassle you at all. This country is definately worth the 26 hours it took us to land in Mexico city. We have been travelling with Flisso plus her brother and two friends which has been absolutely awesome, many a fun night has been had! Our next investment is two hammocks to put up when we reach more beaches and islands off Houndouras and Costa Rica. We are so happy to be here, watch this space for more stories and adventures...... Muchos amore Coff Coff y Alice xoxoxo
